Pull the glow plugs out of all 4 cylinders. Then use a wrench, socket or what ever and turn it over clockwise from the back end, side with the timing belt. If it turns over easy then try it with the starter. Try that and see what happens. EPU has the Deutz manual 5 or 6 pages on the proper way to set the timing. I have a Gehl 4625 SX. I removed the radiator and took off the fan blade and put a ratchet/socket and breaker bar on the large bolt holding on the bottom pulley. I couldn't get it to turn at all. The fan does turn by hand.
